I would like you to note my extensive experience in interpersonal relations, coordinating efforts, counseling, leadership, technology, and accommodating the needs of students. In South Carolina, as a counselor at Brentwood Middle and Stall High, I have developed and proven my effectiveness in dealing with various situations, including issues involving peer mediation, self-esteem, personal counseling, academic and career counseling, post-secondary education, and testing in an at-risk setting. During my tenure in that district, I have been Coordinator for 504 services and Homebound services, and served as Testing Coordinator for the EOCT, ASVAB, PSAT, and PLAN in addition to working with all testing. I also served a CATE designated counselor working with the CATE teachers to ensure completer status of students fulfilling a CATE curriculum.
Since taking a position in GA, I have held a position as school counselor at Scott Alternative Learning Center in Savannah, Rutland High and Westside High in Macon, and at Harper-Archer Middle School in Atlanta.
At Scott Alternative, I have had the opportunity to work with students removed from their home school with various disciplinary issues on all grade levels (K-12). In addition to the intake counseling, personal, group and academic counseling, I have had the opportunity to expound my experience by developing the school master schedule, leading in class scheduling and curriculum development, demonstrating my proficiency with SASI, and being an integral part of technology issues within the school. I have also been instrumental in the development and enhancement of the new alternative school framework for student support and growth currently in use.
At Rutland and Westside High Schools in Macon, I have served as school counselor for grades 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. In this position, I have arranged parent nights, student orientation nights, served as coordinator for AIMSWEB testing and 504 coordination. I was instrumental in the coordination, development, and administration of a district recognized after-school credit and attendance recovery program and I have been highly regarded for my work with at-risk students and parent communication. I am highly adept with the Infinite Campus program and highly proficient with most educational computer programs. In addition to working with my assigned caseload, I have also developed relationships with the county correctional facility to ensure that those students who may make life mistakes do not compound them by falling behind on their coursework necessary to graduate, and working with the hearing office and Academy of Success program to ensure students stay on track for graduation. I was the lead person regarding matters involving the Infinite Campus. I coordinated with schools and DJJ regarding transcripts and rectifying credits and transition back into school. I was also charged with creating and working on the Master Schedule for the school, making changes and revisions based on principal input; Developed technology presentations for school and district meetings; and assisting in technology issues within the school.
At both schools, I was the Coordinating Administrator for the Afterschool Credit and Attendance Recovery program and oversaw the program and its daily operation to include managing teachers and transportation, enrolling students, tutoring students in all subject areas, and ensuring the overall success of the program. I was also responsible for ensuring the integrity of the online program, ensuring the students gained a comprehensive understanding of the coursework to pass Exit exams, and that students were enrolled in courses necessary to matriculate on time.
In my one tenure as Counselor at Harper-Archer Middle School, I served as a counselor for 8th grade students. I provided individual counseling (including initiating development of Student Success plans for social and academic success), peer mediation, group counseling and guidance, and parent/teacher consultation for students through parent and administrative recommendations and self-referrals. I work with enrollment, scheduling, and developing and implementing a school guidance plan to promote SEL I am responsible for planning and organizing seminars and symposiums for the socio-emotional and academic needs of student population to promote growth in the socio-emotional development of the student population. I also served as an integral member of the leadership team ensuring academic integrity in the classroom to include data presentation, classroom observation, and feedback. I chaired the attendance team which reviewed and tracked attendance data and addressed student issues that affected both school and individual attendance rates. I served as the lead on issues regarding technology in the school and its effective use in the classroom. I also served as the administrator in charge at select functions and in the administrative role in the absence of the principal and AP.
As an Engagement Specialist with Atlanta Public Schools, and as a GRASP Counselor with Dekalb County I have worked with all grade levels K-12. I was responsible for developing and implementing academic and behavior interventions for a caseload of fifty (50) students chosen based on the previous record of poor performance behaviorally which affected their academic performance and attendance rate. I provide interventions to a pre-defined set of targeted students. The interventions are implemented to promote responsible, appropriate behavior and reduce inappropriate behavior in select students. This included providing regular feedback to students, communicate regularly with families, initiate efforts to keep youth engaged in school, and work collaboratively with schools and programs to define and outline roles to improve participation, performance, and success for individual students who are disengaging from school and learning. During this time, I have had extensive training and the opportunity to implement many SEL programs coupled with the use of Check and Connect, Positive Action, and Restorative Practices and Motivational Interviewing.
